Switch to less carbon intensive food.
If you purchase out-of-season food from around the world, it adds thousands of miles of carbon dioxide emissions to your diet. Red meats (beef and lamb) have the largest carbon footprint because producing a pound of beef or lamb creates about four times more CO2 throughout the process than an equal amount of chicken, turkey or pork. Some studies have shown organic dairy and grain to produce at least 20 percent less carbon emissions than conventional.
