We had a fantastic time at our Earth Day New York 2016 events in Union Square on Sunday, April 17.  The events were host to dozens of exhibitors, interactive displays, live performances, and kids' activities.  We presented our annual Earth Day Initiative / NRDC-NY Awards to chef Tom Colicchio, DSNY Commissioner Kathryn Garcia, and urban farmer and food justice advocate Karen Washington from the stage and hosted public officials to talk about green initiatives like #carfreenyc.

This spring also held our second annual Earth Day 5K Green Tour on Friday, April 22.  It's a 5K with a twist as we raise money for our year-round environmental education programs and participate in a walking tour of great sites in the city, such as the Lowline (the world's first underground park), the eco-friendly 1 Hotel Central Park, and a natural food cooking school, as well as a sneak peak of a new nature documentary.  It's a great activity for friends, family, a corporate volunteer team, or school group.  Lunch was provided by the Natural Gourmet Institute!

Registration for this year's events has closed but you can keep up to date on future events by following us on Instagram @earthdayinitiative, Facebook @earthdayinitiative, or Twitter @earthdaynewyork.
