EARTH DAY 2023 FESTIVAL

Sunday, April 16, 2023
12-6 pm
New York City’s Union Square
(East 17th Street and Park Avenue South)

We’ll hold our annual in-person festival featuring dozens of environmental non-profits and climate campaigns, interactive workshops, and speeches. Sign-up above for updates on the details as we get closer to the event. The festival stage will feature a broadcast of our Earth Day 2023 Virtual Stage (see full details at the bottom of this page) and appearances by climate leaders and Hila the Earth.

 

Workshops include:

Make your own bioplastics
12-1 pm

The term “bioplastics” refers to plastic materials made from renewable sources, instead of fossil based sources. At this workshop, bio artist Lorena Rodriguez Ostia will lead the group in creating their own gelatin based bioplastics which can be taken home. All materials will be supplied and are safe, household items. All ages are welcome!

Build your climate career pathway with Green Jobs Board
1:15-1:45 pm

In this workshop, participants will get career-coaching support to build a career in the climate space. There will be a resume review, interview support, and self-branding discussion to support participants with taking the first step in getting a green job and building a longer-term climate career.

Play a green energy board game
2-3 pm

This workshop will be led by Richard Reiss, one of the co-creators of the educational board game Energetic, a cooperative, interactive game focused on building a understanding of how to bring carbon-neutral energy to NYC. The game is suited for players 11 years and older, can be played at home, or in the classroom as an instructional tool.

“Ask a climate scientist” office hours
3:15-3:45 pm

Do you have a question about climate science? Join us for a live "Ask Me Anything" session with climate scientists representing local institutions including NYU and Columbia University.

Explore climate justice youth activism with Fridays For Future NYC
4:00-4:30 pm

Chat with youth climate activists from Fridays for Future NYC on getting involved in the campaign to call for climate action at any age.

Write to your elected officials about New York climate policy
4:45-5:15 pm

One way to get involved with climate action is to engage with your elected officials. Join youth organizers from TREEAge for a tutorial on letter writing to NY state legislature and policies to look out for in 2023.
